February 15, 2008 I heard from several women complaining about my column on women's unrealistic expectations while not mentioning that men do the same thing. I have only one thing to say - you're right! Men do tend to do the same thing, but I think our unrealistic expectations are based more on appearance than personality and job, which is where women's expectations seem to lean towards. Yes, guys do tend to like women who look like Jessica Alba and we will hope that our date looks like her. We'll even dismiss women who don't like as good as her, when she's a totally unrealistic appearance standard. Absolutely we're bad that way. Then again, I've heard women say they won't go out with a man because of his shoes. Or his job. My point was that both sides have unrealistic expectations, but that's not often realized. My goal was to get each person to look at their expectations for their potential partners and think about how realistic they are. Has anyone ever met all of them? Are they humanly possible?
